Tired, Pained, but Happy --- Oh, Something Dirty

As I said in the last post "About To Run" , I had a Back-to-Back Band Competition day. I'm still recovering from that. I have a knee problem called Patellar Tendonitis, which is a weakness of the tedon connecting the knee cap to the shin bone. I thought that the two comps would tear my knee apart, and I was halfway right. Although I didn't realize how tired my knees and ankles were until I went to bed at 10:30 pm that night. Today at school I had compressed my left knee (the one with patellar tendonitis) with a compression wrap and my right knee had a simple Ace Brand knee brace.

I was happy to go home after the competitions and be greeted by my fuzz ball of a kitten Nahla. I felt simple relief when she laid down on top of my back, I knew I was home and I could rest.

This morning, I went into the band room for my 3rd period general music class and fixed any of the cheap metal hangers on the uniform racks. My band director came up to me and told me that today's practice was cancelled and I was relieved. As musch as I love Band Practice, I just didn't feel like practicing today.

"I had to motivate myself to get out of bed this morning" - My Band Director.

Oh, something dirty... Well, have you heard of the show on A&E called Hoarders?

Well, everytime I watch I go and clean something, makes me know theres nothing dirty... so, maybe my life won't turn into a situation that has been portrayed so many times before on the show...

I'm still tired and worn from Band... maybe I'll be more motivated to blog about it later in the week...

Blog #3 - About To Run

Tomorrow is the first of Two days of Marching Band Competitons. I have two in one day tomorrow, but right now I feel like Poo.... :(

I'm actually kind of excited and maybe listening to little bit of "Hakuna Matata" will help me get through the day tomrrow. I've made a playlist especially for the bus ride to the competitons tomorrow. Competitions are really competitive, but all the while, fun and exciting. You get to meet people from other bands and the crowds there will cheer for you even if you're competing against their child's band.

"The people in the stands are there to hear the bands, they don't care about football!" - My Band Director at practice yesterday. This year's show is an "Earth Wind & Fire" Show. The selections include a "Rock That!" and "September" medley, alongside "Fantasy" and "In The Stone". I feel prepared, I'm just hoping I don't trip, or my knee gives out on the Second Competition in "In The Stone".

So, in lieu of having to report to my High School early tomorrow morning, I leave you with some Marching Band Quotes.

"Marching band today isn't your grandmother or grandfather's marching band where the band walked out onto the field, stopped and played a couple of songs and walked off the field. These students are moving thousands of steps at high tempos all the while playing an instrument or using a piece of color guard equipment during one show."

"Breath in the music and breath out your performance"

"Rehearse the same way you plan to perform, that way when you perform its just like rehersal."

Blog #2 - R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to ME!!

Marching Band Practice is typical across all school systems this time of year in the United States. Also this time of year is the beginning of Conditioning for sports such as Basketball and Baseball. However, because Band is stereotypically comprised of Nerds and Geeks, some players of the two forementioned sports seem to think that we're useless and they can talk back to some of our seniors. I find it appalling, aggravating, and currently keeping think of Arethea Franklin's Hit "Respect".

Last week I told off a Baseball player who told me a I was being a geek for wearing my beret on Spirit day. He then said "Hey, whoa, you guys definitely work harder than we do... you're even outside longer than us."

At least someone thought about it.

Sometimes, the Band has tense stressful moments when everyone wants to kill one another, but in the end when we all pull it together and make it sound flawless, that is true teamwork. Not the crap the Basketball players say is teamwork.. yes, they all practice, but there has got I be at least one person that acts and shows off just to play every game and fail, then to just be the hero. Hey dude, you're not Lebron James, just stop trying to dunk like that... just stop.

Today during an Upper Woodwinds Sectionals, a basketball player decided he would mouth off one of my Band Captains. You just don't do that. I looks at the guy and said "Band, try it sometime." he thn preceded to mock us, to which then my director has said he is buddies with the Basketball coach and will talk to the basketball player who is just a D flat. (Think about it... Db... yeah)

If it gets any worse I may go and kick some brass, afterwards informing the principle that there wa a pile of the kids in the school.

So, on an ending note, There are people who WILL back up the band. There are actually three football players dating three of our guard girls and they are going with us to Competition on Saturday as a part of "set up and clean up" crew.

At least I know the crowds at the Competiton will cheer for everyone because they know just how hard we work the music and marching. But they also understand the respect. I've heard an entire stadium get completely silent to hear my band.

Goals to Achieve: Blog for 365 - Blog # 1 - Bullying

Steven Colbert echoes in the living room as I type this. His satire of political issues can sometimes be a good thing after a day of politically incorrect High School. Where the "Politicians" are the bullies and the "Voter Nation" is the oblivious students. Sometimes, I really think the world would go to sleep and automatically fix itself! But, at last, lets quote some Shakespeare.

"All the world's a Stage and the Men and Women are merely Players" - William Shakespeare.

Shakespeare implies that we are also performers of our attitude on the stage, we as humans, simply can be insensitive. Some more than others. Even the hormone engulfed life of the American High Schools. Just recently, one of my friend's had her car keyed by a "foul, loathesome, evil little cockraoch", to quote Hermoine Granger. The person was insensitive. My friend didn't do anything to deserve, shes certainly a very nice person that bad things have happened to. While quoting some more Harry Potter (which I'm a fan of!) "Harry, you're not a Bad Person, you're a good person that bad things have happened to" - Sirius Black.

I am defineitely not a fan of insensitive human behavior. I feel I've completely gotten off track... Bullying is such a strong media topic today, its hard to decide what to do in High School. If you're in Band, you're nerdy and stupid. If you play a High Ranking sport, (such as Football, Basketball, Baseball, etc.) you're apparently the Gods of the Hallway. I'm just tried of Bullying. People, follow the Golden Rule. Treat Others the Way YOU want to be Treated. So, if you're rude to me, then I'll have to rude back, if I get in trouble, I'll just sit and cite the Golden Rule.

I do hope to get a hold of this blog writing at some point... :)

Sincerly,
